New Hampshire Makes Birth Parent Search Easier
Effective January 1, 2005, adults born in New Hampshire, but adopted by another family, will be allowed to obtain their original birth certificates. A new law, Senate Bill 335, enacted last Summer, makes it easier for adoptees to learn the identity of their natural parents.
New Hampshire becomes only the fifth state to allow adoptees full access to their birth records, joining Oregon, Alabama, Alaska and Kansas, according to Steve Varnum of the Children's Alliance of New Hampshire. Delaware and Tennessee also allow access, but with some restrictions.
