Military Aviation Incident Reports Available Online
A website called Accident-Report.com can provide you with copies of accident reports relating to U.S. military aircraft, including information on the persons involved in the accidents. The website has documents from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Marine Corps. They span a period from 1918 to 1952. If you have a relative that was involved in a military aircraft incident, then you might be interested in this. The website has a directory of names of people involved in these accidents. From there, you can request a quote from Accident-Report.com to find out how much information is available. There is a fee if you choose to have them send you a copy of the report. These documents probably provide very little genealogical value. However, they provide details of where, when, how, and why the aircraft was involved in an accident. Hence, it could bring closure to a piece of your family's history.

You cannot see the actual copy of the marriage license online, but you can request a copy of it directly by link.
Aliens Births in the USA at All Time High
The Center for Immigration Studies announced today the highlights of a study perfomed on birth records. The study shows that that the number of children born to immigrants nationwide (legal & illegal) in 2002 was higher than at any time in American history. In New York, the increase in recent decades has been enormous. The study contains information at the national, state, and, in some cases, county levels (including New York City, Nassau, Westchester, and Suffolk Counties). Two of the most important findings for New York are that there are a very large number of births to illegal aliens in the state and that large differences exist between the education levels of immigrant and native mothers. For future genealogists, researching family history will be particularly difficult because of the proliferation of illegal immigrants, and the lack of available documentation. The study will be available to the general public on July 7, 2005. Advance copies are available to the media.

1911 Canadian Census may be available to genealogists soon
Bill S-18 providing access to the 1911 Canadian Census passed the House of Commons today At 8:00 AM PDT Tuesday June 28th MP Dominic LeBlanc, Deputy Government Whip, rose and stated words to the effect that "If the Speaker would seek it, I believe he would have the unanimous consent of the House to deem Bill S-18 -- An Act to amend the Statistics Act, to have passed Third Reading". That consent was given. Bill S-18 has now passed all necessary stages in both the Senate and the House of Commons and all that remains to be done to make it law is for it to receive Royal Assent. AccessMyLibrary.com - New Tool for Researchers
AccessMyLibrary.com is a new online research tool that genealogists and historians may find quite useful. It is a service of Thomson Gale, a company that provides databases of information to libraries across the United States. The website itself is essentially an online database of Thomson Gale's collection of content, the same content that it provides to libraries, with the exception that the content now available is limited only articles published in a variety of magazines and newspapers. Eventually, Thomson Gale plans to place its entire collection of data here. The caveat is that as a member of the general Internet-browsing public, you cannot access the full text of the articles, unless first having "authenticated" yourself as being an actual library patron. You can only view "snippets" of content. That is, only if you have a library card from a library that is currently a customer of Thomson Gale, will you be able to access the full text. Unfortunately for me, my local library system is not a customer of theirs. One the main selling points for AccessMyLibrary is that the "snippets" information that can be displayed to the general public is indexable by all the Internet search engines. Thomson Gale has created static links to every publication and every article in AccessMyLibrary. Hence, anytime you perform a search on Google or Yahoo, you may see links to AccessMyLibrary within the results. Thomson Gale feels that this will ultimately draw the public into their local libraries in order to sign up for library cards. In addition, they feel that this will also help them sell their services to more libraries. If you'd like to learn more about this, visit their " FAQ page".

Battle of Trafalgar - New Database
The UK National Archives has placed online a database of persons who fought in the famous Battle of Trafalgar. The Battle of Trafalgar, in 1805, was the most famous naval battle in history, involving 18,000 men, and apparently, one woman. I'm sure everyone of you have listened to some other amateur genealogist yap about being descended from Pocahontas. Well, the same goes with Brits, except that it's with being descended from an ancestor who fought in this famous battle. It's just one of those things. Well, now they can discover the painful truth. Placing the database online was done as part of the 200th Anniversary of the Battle. Internet users can search the database for free.

The book features nearly 200 chapters, many of which focus on specific families that settled in Pike County, Illinois throughout the 1800s. Ancestry.com has scanned the pages of this book, and placed the complete set of images into its Family & Local Histories collection. The FLH collection contains over 20,000 other scanned history and genealogy books. To view this book online, a subscription of $79.95 (Annual) or $39.95 (Quarterly) is required.

The Story Behind GenealogyBuff.com
GenealogyBuff.com was created by Bill Cribbs as a suggestion by his ailing wife for a website to help beginning genealogists get started. Bill announced the story of how he got this website started in a press release today. Bill works as a Pressure Vessel Inspector, and visits oil refineries throughout the State of Texas. One day in 1989, while visiting a refinery, he met another man with the same last name as his. The ensuing conversation revealed that the two were distantly related. This got Bill started on researching his family history. After spending years researching the Cribbs family lineage, he had pieced together a family tree with more than 3,000 names. When he discovered the Internet, he decided to publish his research on a website. This opened his eyes to a whole new world of research and publishing. In 1998, he launched a website called " Obituary Links Page" providing an organized directory of links to online obituary transcriptions. Two years later he launched " Obituary Central" which provides an online search engine of obituary records across the Internet. In 1998, Bill's wife Tina was diagnosed with breast cancer. For the next three years, Bill took time off from his websites and focused his time as Tina's primary caregiver. In 2001, her cancer went into remission, and Bill continued with his websites. However in 2004, more devasting news came as it was discovered the cancer returned in Tina's lymph nodes, and spread into her lungs, liver and bones. It was during this time that Tina inspired him to begin a new site for beginning researchers. GenealogyBuff.com was born. GenealogyBuff publishes transcriptions of records with an emphasis on obituaries, including search engines to find records across the Internet. It has since grown to become Bill's most popular website. Now juggling a fulltime job as his wife's caregiver, a father of four children, a refinery inspector by day, and a webmaster by night, Cribbs' accepts his challenges with resolve. "I do it all for Tina. She's the love of my life and I want her to be taken care of. The sites help to pay for her treatments with the few Ancestry.com commissions that I make and my job provides some health insurance." Bill has published a page dedicated to his wife Tina.

Genealogy Extreme
The Chicago Tribune is reporting a story about certain children reaching out to locate biological parents they have never met. Those children are not ones given up for adoption but rather children conceived with sperm donations. Kind of an interesting subject which I thought I would share with you without my passing any judgement on it.
Genealogists Need Counseling
I found an article published on another blog that deals with how genealogists cope with shock and depression after uncovering an embarrassing fact about their ancestry. Apparently, the Society of Genealogists, a leading genealogy group in Britain, is concerned about this. Diane Mattinson, 48, an office manager from Bicester, Oxfordshire, discovered that her great-grandfather, James Phillips, had never married her great-grandmother, Elizabeth.
"It was a bombshell," said Mrs Mattinson. "I had my family to support me and to talk things over with, but some people don't have that. For people who find out they have half-brothers or sisters or things like that, counselling would be a good idea.". . . Oh please! The idea that a genealogist needed her family to be there with her, for support and comfort, after learning her great-grandparents never married. Maybe this is one of the things that makes Americans different than Britons. Americans tend to boast of their ancestors' hidden skeletons, as some kind of source of pride. But it sounds like in Great Britain, folks get depressed about it.
