New Book: Carolina Country Reflections
A new book entitled, " Carolina Country Reflections: Looking at the way we were", take its readers back in time across rural North Carolina. It's a compilation of more than 220 treasured photographs from before 1970, along with personal captions by their contributors, presenting a way of life almost forgotten today. The book contains original and arresting photographs showing rare glimpses of vintage clothes and hairstyles, old cars, work scenes, family reunions, farm harvests and community landmarks. The pictures, nearly all of which have never been published before now, were donated by readers of Carolina Country Magazine, the monthly magazine of North Carolina's Touchstone Energy cooperatives. The book is divided into five chapters, "At Home," "Working," "Having Fun," "Gatherings" and "Familiar & Forgotten." The contributors' down-to-earth recollections about family, neighbors, friends and places reveal how rural North Carolinians lived and loved in a simpler society before 1970. The book's price is $46.00, which includes shipping. The price goes up after January 1.

Mr. Wilbour devoted much of his life to assembling genealogies of his own and other families of Little Compton. Based on extensive research in primary sources and featuring numerous illustrations, LITTLE COMPTON FAMILIES is Mr. Wilbour's legacy to the descendants of some 200 families, many of whom are traced back to the middle of the 17th century. Middle Tennessee's Forgotten Children - Apprentices from 1784 to 1902 - $32.50 Dr. Alan Miller has sifted through the apprenticeship records of Middle Tennessee and brought them within the reach of the genealogy researcher. This second volume of Tennessee's "forgotten children" contains some 7,000 apprenticeship records scattered among the minutes of the county courts for Middle Tennessee. These records span the period from 1784 to 1902 and list in tabular form the apprenticeships created in the following 35 Tennessee counties: Bedford, Cannon, Cheatham, Clay, Coffee, Davidson, DeKalb, Dickson, Franklin, Giles, Grundy, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Jackson, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Marshall, Maury, Montgomery, Moore, Overton, Perry, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Stewart, Sumner, Van Buren, Warren, Wayne, White, Williamson, and Wilson. East Tennessee's Forgotten Children - Apprentices from 1778 to 1911 - $25.00 This publication contains the records of apprenticeships scattered among the minutes of the county courts for Eastern Tennessee. The records, some 11,000 of them, span the period from 1778 to 1911 and bear reference to apprenticeships created in 29 Tennessee counties. The information in the book was compiled from county court minutes on microfilm obtained, in almost every case, from the Tennessee State Archives. Mr. Miller has arranged the records by county and thereunder chronologically. For each record, Mr. Miller gives the name of the apprentice, a date (either the date of the original bond or indenture, or a subsequent date), the age at apprenticeship, the name of the master, and miscellaneous information ranging from the name of the mother or a sibling, race, cause of apprenticeship (e.g., orphan), his/her trade, etc. Genealogical Records in Texas - $37.50 Texas covers a lot of ground, but this guide cuts it right down to size and makes record searching fast and convenient. In text and maps, it provides detailed information on the legal and historical background of the state, the origin of each county, the location of the records for each portion of the county before it was organized into its present boundaries, and the specific records available in the various county courthouses, the Texas State Library, the Texas State Archives, and the Texas General Land Office. In addition, it provides information on the original colonies and districts of Texas, a list of Spanish terms used in land grants and deeds, a list of Texas libraries with resources for genealogical research, and a bibliography.

Genealogy Today Partners with Letus Print
Genealogy Today announced that it has partnered with Chattanooga-based printing company, Letus Print, to market their Ancestor Information Reprint Service (AIRS) - an affordable offering based on an extensive collection of out-of-print books, vintage photographs and rare documents. AIRS collects old documents with family history value, and makes them available to researchers. The AIRS collection covers everything from birth records to obituaries, military service during the Civil War to World War I, and almost every aspect of daily life and day to day business in the late 1800's and early 1900's. It also includes ads from old family businesses and farms, salary or school records, obituaries which range from one paragraph to several pages long and even records of war service. Plus, many of these items include photos, portraits or engravings of the individuals. Researchers can use Genealogy Today to browse through the initial 65,000+ names indexed from the AIRS collection, and when they find a match, easily order a quality reprint of the page(s) that mention the ancestor - reprints that are copied directly from the original sources. Included with every reprint order are copies of the title page, lists of abbreviations and any additional information of value to researchers. Browse the AIRS Collection.
