Kleenex Tissue for Genealogy
Kimberly Clark, the company that makes the Kleenex Tissue brand of paper, is now offering a personalized version of its tissue boxes. You can go to: http://www.mykleenextissue.com/... ...and upload a photo of your own, along with some text, and have it imprinted on an oval shaped tissue box. This probably has more scrapbooking value than genealogy, but if you put your mind to it, you could create images that contain a descendancy tree, and add text of your surname. It costs $6.00 for one to six oval cartons. Labels: Miscellaneous, Scrapbooking
Family Tree Stationery
Paper Pow Stationery is now offering this stationery dubbed, "Old Family Tree". Here's what they have to say about it... Old Family Tree is designed for use not only as stationery, but for creatively displaying your family pedigree chart; it's also a great tool for use in teaching kids about family history and genealogy. The family tree space provides ample room for writing or displaying photos, and the background hearkens back to the time of early settlers, when houses were small and sparse and land stretched out as far as the eye could see. The sepia tint and splotchy color are reminiscent of an old photograph. The banner nestled in the lower branches of the family tree provides the perfect space to write your family name. You can get 15 sheets for $8.00, plus shipping and handling. Visit online: http://www.paperpow.com/familytree.htmLabels: Paper

Descendants of Signers of Flushing Remonstrance 1657 New Netherland (New York)
The historical Bowne House in Flushing, Queens New York is looking for descendants of Peter Stuyvesant, his sheriff Resolved Waldron, and signers of the Flushing Remonstrance of 1657. Dec. 27, 2007 will be the 350th anniversary of this famous signing. The Flushing Remonstrance is recognized as the foundation of freedom of religion in America. Though there were only 30 signers, there are thousands of descendants living today. Though he was not there to sign the document, John Bowne was the first to "test" it when he allowed Quakers to worship in his house. Because of this, he was arrested and imprisoned by Governor Peter Stuyvesant, and sent back to Holland for trial. There he won his case for religious liberty, and returned to New York in 1663, with a ruling for Peter Stuyvesant to extend tolerance to all religious sects. The 30 signers were: Nicolas BLACKFORD, George CLERE, Elias DOUGHTIE, Edward FARRINGTON, Tobias FEAKE, Antonie FIELD, Robert FIELD, Sr, ROBERT field, Jr. , John FOARD, Edward GRIFFINE, Edward HART, Nathaniel HEFFERD, Benjamin HUBBARD, John MASTINE, Michael MILNER, William NOBLE, Nich Colas PARSELL, William PIDGION, Henry SEMTELL, Richard STOCTON, John STORE, Edward TARNE, William THORNE Sr., William THORNE, Jr. John TOWNSEND, Nathaniel TUE, Micah TUE, Phillip UDALL, George WRIGHT. Things You Didn't Know About Me
There's a game of tag going around amongst genealogy bloggers, where they have to air out five pieces of information that no one knows about themselves. I got tagged by Lorine several months ago, but just didn't follow through, because it sounded like a pyramid scheme for one blogger at the very top to get tons of backlinks, hence raising his overall readership and Google referrals. But after reading Illya's offering of five things that I didn't know about him, and then discovering a list of other genealogy bloggers that decided to play the game as well, I was intrigued. So, I started reading them. They're pretty "safe" things... - One blogger says he likes to eat cheesecake
- Another blogger owns a donkey named "Burr"
- Illya says he used to own a hamster named "Daisy" (Ahhh, how sweet!)
- A blogger says she used to be in the Navy
- Yet another blogger says she likes to do gardening
Ok, I apologize for being cynical here. But doesn't this prove my point? These pieces of information are not things that we didn't know about. I mean, ok maybe I didn't really know these things, but these aren't things that really intrigue us, or really say anything about us. It's all SAFE STUFF. Consider that Illya recently wrote an article about one of his pet peeves, genealogy webmasters who remain anonymous. Come on now, does this little game shed any kind of light on who we are? That's why this is really more of an attempt to gain link popularity for the blogger who started this game. It doesn't do what it intended to do at all. No one's got the guts to really spill their guts. Ok, so you REALLY want to know some secret things about me. Ok, here goes... - I use Crest toothpaste.
- I have two dogs.
- I subscribe to cable TV, not satellite.
- I like to eat fast food.
- My digital camera is a Canon Powershot SD300.
There, I feel so much more naked now that everyone knows this stuff.

One Million Newspaper Pages Now Online
A partnership between SmallTownPapers, Inc. and World Vital Records, puts one million newspaper page images online for genealogists. Here's the press release... Seattle, WA – February 14, 2007 - Under a partnership between SmallTownPapers, Inc. and World Vital Records, Inc., one million exclusive newspaper pages from small towns across America are now available on the World Vital Records website. The newspapers, part of the SmallTownPapers collection, represent unique historical content which has never before been available on the Internet and is not available from any other source. "While it's easy to find old articles from larger, daily newspapers which are readily available online, it's a challenge when you trace family roots to a small town because those newspapers weren't necessarily microfilmed or placed in the local library," said Adam Deason, a genealogy buff in Murray, Utah with family roots in a small Alabama town. "Having the newspapers easily accessible and searchable on the World Vital Records website will dramatically enhance my ability to document family history." Today, one million pages from small market, weekly newspapers across the country dating back as far as the mid-1800s are accessible through World Vital Records with that number growing weekly. Just as Google, Microsoft and others are beginning to scan books; SmallTownPapers is digitizing the complete archive of more than 300 newspapers from small towns across America, including the current printed weekly editions. "We selected World Vital Records to distribute our collection of small-town newspapers because of their commitment to the millions of people who want to research their family history," said Paul Jeffko, president and founder of SmallTownPapers, Inc. "World Vital Records is delivering on their mission to help people discover their ancestors with an incredible collection of exclusive materials, including SmallTownPapers." America has seen a surge in the demand for online genealogy resources. Market Strategies, Inc. found in 2005 that 73% of Americans are interested in discovering their family history. Last year, Pew Internet and American Life Project found that over 35 million Americans are interested in online genealogy research. "SmallTownPapers is filling family historians' needs for historical as well as vital record data from newspapers that otherwise might never be accessed," said Leland K. Meitzler, genealogist and Managing Editor of Everton's Genealogical Helper. "I did search my own name and was amazed to discover an item from an early 1970s Eatonville (Washington) Dispatch, complete with a picture, about a nursery business I operated when I was a kid. I had no idea the article was ever run. All of us have family members in small towns of America. This resource is amazing and shouldn’t be overlooked when searching your family history." SmallTownPapers works with hundreds of small market newspaper publishers to create this unique, searchable database rich in historical information needed by genealogists including births, marriages, obituaries and articles about family members. To date, the company has scanned more than two million of its more than 20 million page archive, which will be available online as the digital images are created.
